The only child, Jonathan Gregory Brandis of Mary, and Gregory Brandis, was born in Danbury, Connecticut on April 13, 1976. “I attended a very small junior high and especially in the end that became a disaster.
The principal was pretty senile and a drunk, so the children more or less ruined the school” Jonathan explained. Then in high school Jon took Brittany Murphy to the prom. His career began acting in television commercials in addition to being a child model. He got his break at the age of six when he landed a recurring role on a daytime television. At the age of nine, Jon moved to L.A. where he obtained guest appearances on primetime television shows; including 1990's starring role in “The Neverending Story 2: The Next Chapter" and “seaQuest DSV” for two seasons. “…the series is situated in the next century, and for the most part under water, there are many innovative technical gadgets. It's a kind of StarTrek. When I first came there, I was really impressed myself,” stated Jonathan Brandis. The role of Lucas launched him into teen idol status. Then in 1995 Jonathan dated Tatyana Ali while co-starring in the TV movie Fall into Darkness together; until their break-up in 2001
While working on “seaQuest DSV”, Jonathan co-wrote one episode of "The Siamese Dream". Shortly before his death, Jonathan produced and directed “The Slainville Boys”, a short film; in addition, he also directed several other independent films and authored screenplays.
His friends had noticed he was depressed about his lagging career in addition to being lonely. One friend admitted that “Brandis drank heavily, and had even mentioned that he might kill himself.” Although there is no rationale in jumping to conclusions, no one really will really know why Jonathan decided to hang himself on November 12, 2003.
