Little did a cocktail waitress and an auto mechanic know in Hoquaim, Washington on the February 20, 1967 that their son would redefined the nineties music with his grunge band, Nirvana. Kurt Donald Cobain, a sickly child, moved to Aberdeen, Washington. When he turned seven, Kurt's parents divorced and unloved and insecure feelings fueled the Nirvana’s sound.
Kurt created a series of bands before 1986; Nirvana’s beginning. Nirvana was formed in Aberdeen by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, an American rock band.
By 1988 Nirvana were doing shows and had demo tapes going around. Through the touring and pressure Cobain continued to write his very personal acutely focused lyrics. Nirvana entered into the mainstream with the hit single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from the 1991 album Nevermind.
Nirvana redefined the nineties with the subgenre, grunge, of alternative rock. Other grunge bands gained popularity for instance, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains; during the early-to-middle 1990s. As a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre in the United States on the radio and television music stations. Kurt Cobain, Nirvana’s leader, was referred to as the “spokesman of a generation” by the media.
Nirvana was the “flagship band” of “Generation X“and with the attention Kurt was uncomfortable. He challenged audiences with a third album In Utero by setting the band’s music as primary focus.
Early in their courtship, Cobain was evasive to the advances Love made; Cobain broke off dates as unsure to acknowledge their relationship. Cobain has stated, "I was determined to be a bachelor for a few months [...] But I knew that I liked Courtney so much right away that it was a really hard struggle to stay away from her for so many months.”
The band used an apartment in Los Angeles while recording their second album, Nevermind; Love lived a block down the street and would stop by often since, "We bonded over pharmaceuticals." admitted Love. At a Butthole Surfers concert they met again in May 1991; then in November they became a couple while touring Europe.
Three months later in Honolulu, Hawaii, Love and Cobain married on February 24, 1992. For the ceremony, she wore actress Frances Farmer’s satin and lace gown and he’d been "too lazy to put on a tux" so he wore green pajamas; then Six months later, on August 18, the couple’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, was born.
