Aaliyah Dana Haughton blessed this earth with her birth on January 16th 1979 in Brooklyn, New York. Aaliyah was raised in Detroit, Michigan with her parents, Michael and Diane and brother Rashad Haughton. Her career began almost immediately having a talented vocalist mother and an Uncle, Barry Hankerson, in the business; was formerly married to Gladys Knight. She appeared on "Star Search" at the age of 9 singing "My Funny Valentine”. Two years later in Las Vegas she sang with Gladys Knight for five nights. She had stated at one point in her career ”When I'm long gone, I want to be remembered not just as an actress or singer, but as a full-on entertainer”.
Aaliyah pursued and achieved many goals beginning in 1992. Every year she tackled a new achievement from working on her debut album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" with R. Kelly to Releasing her self-titled album in 2001. She made her debut on the big screen in Romeo Must Die and the next year she was nominated for two MTV awards. “Everything is worth it. The hard work, the times when you're tired, the times where you're a bit sad . . . In the end, it's all worth it because it really makes me happy. There's nothing better than loving what you do” said Aaliyah.
On August 23, 2001 Aaliyah started filming for 'Rock the Boat', on Abaco Island, in the Bahamas. Filming was completed by the 25th of August. Everyone and including her hair-stylist boarded a small plane. After take off, barely in the air, the plane exploded and crashed. Aaliyah and everyone, passed away.
Playing the lead, Queen Akasha in Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned film (2002) was released. Aaliyah was nominated for best Villain at the MTV movie awards 2002.
MTV nominated her with 'Try Again' for ‘Best female video' and 'Best Video in a film'. Impressing the producer with her performance she got parts in The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003). Aaliyah gave some good advice at the MTV Awards “Keep working hard and you can get anything that you want. If God gave you the talent, you should go for it. But don't think it's going to be easy. It's hard”!
