Heath Ledger died January 22, 2008. Over the years I have interviewed him several times. Once for Brokeback Mountain and once for The Brothers Grimm. Over the years I have found Heath pleasant, interesting, and full of life. He has never liked the "interview process" but many movie stars do not. My last interview, however, was very different. It was for the movie I'm Not There. I must tell you that I have never seen him so unhinged and figity as he was for this interview. Many of the journalists who spoke to him also feel the same way...but we had not idea he would die within weeks. Here is the complete interview I had with him just weeks ago for his latest movie. I'm not posting this because it was a great interview, because it certainly wasn't one of my best. I am posting it so people out there can get a better understanding of Heath's state of mind just before he died. Rest in peace.

Heath Ledger was born on April 4, 1979, in Perth, Western Australia. The son of Sally Ledger Bell, and Kim Ledger, heir to the Ledger Engineering Foundry, in addition The Sir Frank Ledger Charitable Trust is named after his great-grandfather. Ledger attended Mary's Mount Primary School, in Gooseberry Hill and later Guildford Grammar School, where he had his first acting experiences, starring in a school production as Peter Pan at age 10. He was smitten. “I just loved it,” he says, “and kept doing it. I blinked my eyes and I was getting paid. Doors kept opening and I kept walking through them.”

In 2001, Heath rocked his fans’ worlds in “A Knight’s Tale” as a peasant squire breaking all the rules. Heath however was the one featured on the poster for the film, with the tagline of “He Will Rock You” Heath had a riotous time filming in Prague, where the cast was encouraged to drink beer and have fun as a group. “I hope some people are drunk when they see the film as we were enormously drunk when we made it,” co-star Paul Bettany stated.
Not surprisingly, Warner Bros. has paid special attention on Ledger in the hopes that the actor will receive a posthumous nomination with their recently unveiled “For Your Consideration” ads, running in Variety. Casey wrote on November 24, 2008, “From the moment we first got a glimpse of Heath Ledger in “The Dark Knight,” moviegoers across the board knew they were watching something both special and tragic. And regardless of whether you consider him to be your favorite portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime, one thing’s certain — Ledger’s performance definitely deserves recognition from The Academy”.
Heath’s legacy is encouraging people to sign the ONE declaration and he holds a fundraiser to help the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty. The research shows that Heath was very passionate about supporting the ONE Campaign and Fight for Global AIDS and extreme poverty.
